The PMI Birmingham chapter is based in Birmingham, Alabama, USA and is home to over 500 members who are interested in the Project Management discipline. We provide education and training opportunities at reduced rates to members, assistance with attainment of the PMI Project Management Professional (PMP®) certification, and numerous networking and informational sessions. To Learn even more about PMI Birmingham, visit our FAQs.
Each year over 600 community volunteers participate in the United Way of Central Alabama's annual Allocations Process as Visiting Allocation Team (VAT) volunteers. Through this citizen review process, United Way campaign dollars are distributed to partner agencies and initiatives throughout the United Way service area. Ideal volunteers should have a strong desire to make an impact in our community and the flexibility to attend a few week day meetings this Fall.

(As of this April one hundred and thirty-three have completed the course and become PMI Birmingham members.)
Endorsements from participants:
Mike Harfield, Process Engineer: "I was asked to put together a simple model for BPI (business process improvements) and used the information you gave us ... .We have a large customer in Europe that wants our help in looking at their "As Is" process for testing concrete quality and ... help them ... develop a "To Be" environment that is more efficient."
Delilah Webb, President, Southern Automated Systems, Inc.: "Thanks so much to UAB for the Project Management Certification Course! Having been actively involved in project management for almost 30 years, I thought I was proficient in this part of my profession; but I was proven wrong almost immediately. While studying chapter 2 (yes - the SECOND chapter), I realized that I had overlooked 3 important issues in a proposal that was ready to be sent to a client the next morning. I immediately revised the proposal to include those three issues (involving a stakeholder, need for communications, and documentation development), and discovered a difference of over $7,000.00 in the proposal (about 5% of the total investment). That is money that would have been spent – and lost – by my company because of my lack of knowledge and training in project management. It is appalling to think of all those previous projects that were not managed properly. It is exciting to think that the knowledge I am gaining will enable me to better manage projects in the future. Knowledge gained in this course will result in lower project costs, more accurate sales figures for clients, better client satisfaction, less time to complete projects, and the increased probability of having a successful project.
After just 3 weeks (6 classes) I am infinitely more knowledgeable and effective in my job – and have saved $7,000 to prove it! I can't wait to learn more! Thanks, again!"
